We Bought a Zoo reflection

In this final week, me and my group finally come out with the final prototype of our own game. A simple board game where player need has to buy the animals and cleverly manage their animals to win the game. The player who own the most animals and own more money will win. Player could also buy shops and upgrade their animal so that whenever other player pass you animal, you will earn more money.

At the end of the game testing, we found that some player found the game interesting, some of them said that the game is too boring but some improvement could be made to make the game much more interesting and fun to be played by many people from different ages.

Workshop 8: Design Studio

Group Member: Airlangga Kusuma, Hendy Brainta, Reza Kelvianto, Steven Jourdan

  • The game that we will make is called we bought a zoo. The idea is taken from the movie with some little modification and we implemented it into game. It is a board game which is suitable for all ages and the game is available up to 4 people. This game will be a very simple one compare to the other game from the team member.
  • Our members made all digital game, so we choose to make my game and make it as a board game, we use the ideas in the movie story and some idea that we rethink together to make a better board game.
  • Our game will not be a very big. Here are the elements in the game that will be played by the player:
    1. Board - The Map of the game
    2. Card
    3. Money - Money that will be used in the game
    4. Mechanics - Rules of the game
    5. tokens - Pieces (chess piece / coins)
    6. Dice - show how many steps player can go
  • All the members have agreed to divide the task equally. All the design photoshop will be done by Reza and Airlangga but the design proposal like sketching will be done by all of members. Documentation will be done by Hendy and Jourdan.
  • Prototype is an early model of the project that is already playable but it may not be perfect. Purpose of the prototype is for user testing to collect feedback from the user
  • Flesh:
    • Goal: be the one who own more animal than the other player , earn most money and finish first
    • Character: The player it self.
    • Material: paper for board, paper money, dice, pieces for player

workshop 8

Workshop 8 this week will be review on an online therapist name Eliza. In my opinion after some interaction with eliza, I realize that not all my question is answered properly. Some of the answer is not being answered properly. My suggestion will be in fixing the conversation so that it will reply with more interactive. This kind of service is good for me, it is just need more improvement.

The animal in last stage is the most interesting one, player could unlock and own animal from the old time such as dinosaurus  and many other old animals.
other quest could be found is getting the zookeeper to guide the animal's cage. If there is the zookeeper guard the cage, when opponent pass through your cage, player could get more money.

We Bought a Zoo

A free roam simulation game where player could move around freely around the area in the map. The story of the game is based on the movie. Player has to rebuild and redesign the place to make a new zoo and reopen again. The design and the building process is all up to the player. One thing player has to watch is that they have to make sure they have enough money. Once they run out of money, they can continue until they sell something.

This will be an offline single player game in PC platform.

Comment: This game has a very fun game play. User has to use their luck to able to avoid the missing turn card and try to get the key to the exit and find their way to exit first.
It is simple and easy to play but they have to make the game board bigger so that the game could last longer and give more fun.
